Aircraft Jacks and What We Want

Traditionally, if you needed to lift a number of aircraft to perform maintenance or repairs, you were limited in what jacks could be used. That is, you were confined to approved jacks that could only be used on a specific or very limited number of applications, one set of jacks for low wing aircraft, a set of high wing jacks for high wing aircraft such as the Cessna jacks.

Jack pads provide a cradle for the main landing gear legs. The cradle design securely holds the landing gear providing a safe jack point. Universal aircraft jacks for most applications require heavy-duty lifting capacity, smooth maneuverability, and unquestioned reliability for jacking both flat and tubular gear aircraft.

Hydraulic aircraft jacks are of course subject to a preventative maintenance schedule to ensure that they are always ready for operation. The time intervals are affected by factors for the climatic conditions in which the equipment is stored and the frequency of equipment use.

Prior to operation you should inspect for damaged or missing components, oil leakage and proper fluid level, screw extension for mechanical stop, snap rings for engagement into grooves, change hydraulic filters and calibrate pressure gauges. When air pumps are fitted, at extremely cold temperatures, they will start to react sluggishly and continue to operate less efficiently as the temperature decreases when a normal air supply is used. The problem can be eliminated by using a dry nitrogen source of sufficient capacity

Liberation is what good aircraft jacking systems provide when maintaining and repairing aircraft, such as at FBOs or Service Centres.
